Experimental Social Justice Conference to Make its Debut in Denver

DENVER, Co., February 17, 2012 – Organized chaos is set to occupy Denver’s Auraria campus during the first annual Art of Social Justice conference being held this April. Creative and enlightening methods of approaching social justice will take place through the unification of artists, community members, scholars, student groups, and activists.

The Keynote speaker, renowned author and provocative democratic intellectual Dr. Cornel West will be highlighting three days of workshops, exhibits, performances, and panels discussing the intersections of social justice issues. Open to the public, people from all walks of life are encouraged to attend the free conference in order to harness their own skills to the culture of social justice.

“This event isn’t just teaching social justice, it is doing it. We want to open up the possibility of a sustainable, honest, and all-inclusive culture centered on everyday social justice,” said Rachael Boice, student organizer. “We want to show people how they can use their personal lives, skills, and interests to transform their world.”

The conference will feature a wide array of presenters, artists, performances, and workshops designed to explore the connections between seemingly disparate social justice issues. The festivities are geared towards illuminating the common need for positive social change.

Highlights of the conference include workshops from the Beehive Collective, The Colorado Anti- Violence Program, The Denver Zine Library, Community Yoga, and Derailleur Community Bike.

The Collective for Social Change (CSC), a student group at Auraria campus, is organizing and hosting the conference, which will be held at the Auraria campus April 10th-12th, 2012. Events will take place primarily in the Tivoli Student Union, Saint Cajetan’s Church, and several outdoor spaces throughout the campus.
